What we are building
Millions of lateral-flow tests are read every year. When the result is written down at all, it is a single word — positive or negative — even when the line was faint enough that two people would have called it differently.
We are making a lateral-flow test as easy to read as it is to photograph. An owner, a technician and a clinician should be able to look at the same result and not hesitate about what it says.
Knowing what that result means past the exam room should be just as easy. Reading the test, keeping the result, and seeing what it adds up to across a region are three separate problems today. Here they are one system.

Robert Schaut, PhD
Chief Executive Officer, co-founder
Immunologist, formerly of the USDA-ARS National Animal Disease Center. Led external research partnerships at Oracle, then innovation and in-licensing in animal health at Elanco. Has previously built and raised for a clinical-stage biotech.
Shay Bracha, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Oncology)
Chief Operating Officer, co-founder
Veterinary oncologist and Associate Professor at The Ohio State University, with a record in comparative medicine spanning proteomics, oncoimmunology and biomarker discovery. Has secured NIH (R01-NCI) and commercial funding, with extensive clinical trial experience. Leads trial design, assay development and validation.
Risa Pesapane, PhD
Chief Scientific Officer
Infectious disease ecologist and Associate Professor at The Ohio State University, specializing in tick-borne disease. Founded and directs a revenue-generating surveillance unit, leading assay development, securing public- and private-sector contracts, and launching a fee-for-service testing program. Leads clinical requirements, validation and tick-borne expansion.
Where the science originates
LateraDX is an early-stage company built on multiplex lateral-flow and reader technology validated through research conducted at The Ohio State University. Two of the three executives hold appointments there, and the oncology biomarker work originates in peer-reviewed research from those labs.
Current status
LateraDX is in active development. The software is not a cleared or approved diagnostic device, every reading is presented for a clinician to confirm, and the programs described here are at different stages of validation.
